Engaged! Niki & Kyle
It took a stroke of fate, some exact change, and a very loud concert for Kyle and Niki to meet, even though they were living next door to each other for years!
After hearing a friend’s mutual friend grumble about not having exact change for a drink at a concert venue, Niki dashed to the rescue and offered Kyle a fist full of her change. Laughing and charmed, Kyle accepted, bought both of them a pop and the two of them have been inseparable ever since! Niki was 17 and Kyle was 18 years old, but after only a short time together they knew they had each found their perfect match.
We’ve known Kyle and Niki for years now, so you can imagine our delight when they asked us to be their wedding photographers. Because of our close friendship and the fact that we know how much they both love the outdoors, we knew that for their engagement session we would have to do something really special. So we did something we’ve never really done before and took them to our family cottage, which also happens to be the namesake of our photography business, Boakview. Boakview cottage is nestled deep in Northern Ontario lake country. Once a railroad station, it is now a rustic (we’re talking no electricity or plumbing) get-away for family and friends. We took Niki and Kyle on a weekend trip to capture their love of nature, the outdoors, and most importantly, each other. Albeit rainy, we managed to have a great time – sharing stories, exploring the fall nature, hiking, and drinking some traditional lemon-honey tea.
We are beyond excited to be part of Niki and Kyle’s special day, which will happen on March 2nd in Mexico!!! (We’re talking: dancing on the beach, fun in the sun, and margaritas galore!) Until then, check out some of the photos from their rustic engagement session. Enjoy!
Engaged! Virginia & Scott
Scott and Virginia had their first date on a rainy February evening at a trendy lounge downtown Toronto in 2012. After hours of talking and sharing a bottle (or two) of wine they quickly realized the many things they had in common, including the same quirky sense of humour…Little would they know that two years later they would be planning an exciting wedding in Muskoka – and are we ever excited to be part of their special day!
Although cottage country is where the wedding will take place, their hometown of Toronto has a special place in both Virginia and Scott’s hearts. Because of this they wanted the engagement photos to reflect some of their favorite places to spend time together. Knowing their penchant for nature and the outdoors we suggested High Park and Sunnyside Beach as the setting for the engagement shoot. They have always been drawn to High Park for its ability to make anyone feel miles outside of the city and the waterfront was also important as they have spent many after-work dates together by the water. So in order to represent this goofy and adorable couple we packed their favourite wine, a few treats and headed outside! The overall vibe of the photo session reflected what they do best — to have fun and laugh together!
Dana & Nick
We are super excited to share this latest wedding, which has also been featured on The Wedding Co. If we had to use one word to describe Dana and Nick it would be ‘serene’. Everything about this couple is relaxed, composed, and tranquil, which makes their elegant vintage wedding all the more spectacular. As wedding photographers, we know that weddings can be stressful at times and after seeing all the whimsical details, the attention to the smallest little things, and the unique mixture of cultural traditions (Dana is Arabic and Nick is Northern Irish) we were amazed at how these two always managed to stay unruffled throughout the entire planning process. Dana’s secret? “I am marrying my best friend, everything else will fall into place…Oh and start planning early and get the little things done as soon as possible!”
Dana and Nick tied the knot on a beautiful summer afternoon at Bellvue Manor surrounded by family and friends from all over the world. The candlelit ceremony combined cultural traditions from both sides and reflected the couple’s sincerity and genuine love for one other.
The party afterwards was one for the books! The combination of old melodic Irish tunes and the fast-paced rhythms of modern and traditional Arabic songs had everyone on the dance floor. The flower girls and ring bearers were happy to join in the fun and a belly dancer inspired even the oldest of guests to get out of their seats and onto the dance floor. Surrounded by those closest to them, Nick and Dana danced the night away.

Engaged! Carly & Olly
After a whirlwind few months we’ve finally had a chance to sit down and update our blog, and, as promised, here is a look at one of our most recent engagement shoot we did right here in the city. Carly and Olly are not only adorable (just spend 5 minutes with these guys and you pretty much swoon from the cuteness) but they are also genuine and super fun. Huge fans of the water (they are getting hitched in Mexico) we decided to take them to Sunnyside Beach in the west end of Toronto for a little impromptu picnic. It was touch and go for a little bit as we got rained out for the first half of our session, but these two lovebirds persevered the rain and in the end the sun decided to cooperate and we had a blast! Thanks Olly and Carly for a fantastic morning.
A special thanks to Emily from Material Culture Co. for making and providing us with some beautiful pillows for the shoot. Not only were they lovely to photograph and comfy to sit on, but they also provided great coverage from the sporadic rain.

Engaged! Eddie & Alison
Eddie and Alison are the quintessential outdoors couple, after all they met and fell in love over a conversation about sleeping under the stars in a bivy sack (you’ll have to ask them what a bivy sack is). To capture their love (and general adorableness) we decided to take these two lovebirds for a picnic in a beautiful conservation area and just as predicted, they felt right at home! With our trusty blanket in tow, some snacks and warm tea (we decided to leave the bivy sack at home), we had a blast photographing this lovely couple’s sincerity and adoration for one another. Never a dull moment, we even had several visits from a curious Canada goose who totally wanted in on the action!

We are so excited to share that our latest engagement session with the lovely and super fun Alison & Eddie has been featured on one of our most favourite Toronto-based wedding sites: The Wedding Co. We will be sharing the pictures soon, but until then you can check out the featured post here!

Postcards from Istanbul…
“If one had but a single glance to give the world, one should gaze on Istanbul…” Truer words could not have been spoken of this magical place. So vibrant in colour, texture, sights, smells and sounds – a photographer’s dream and a traveler’s delight. Where East and West meet and everything seems a little more brighter, more exciting and more extraordinary. This is Istanbul…
